ABOUT APRIL CURTIS

Early Intervention Specialist &
Educational Consultant

Since 2000, April Curtis has served thousands of families in their homes guiding them through Early intervention services through the Missouri First Steps program and DMH as well as guiding many families through the many challenges of IEP planning.

April believes ALL Children can learn and succeed and believes their parents/caregivers are their first teachers and know them the best.  Together with the family, April helps the family make realistic home and school-based goals in the most least restrictive way for their children to reach their highest potential in the most inclusive setting possible.

APRIL'S PHILOSOPHY

Kids Can Do... All Because of You

Are you a parent of a toddler who isn’t walking or talking or has questions about their development that keep you up at night? April will guide you through the next steps to take, providing resources, strategies, and collaboration with other therapists or specialists to get your child on their way to meeting their appropriate milestones.

As children leave early intervention in the home setting, they most likely move to a school setting. This can be a challenging time for parents. Knowing how to meet your child's needs in out-of-home environments, understanding your child's rights, and the laws as well as navigating the system can be overwhelming at times. With April’s knowledge and expertise, you can learn these things in the comfort of your home.  April will guide you through the process step-by-step and will attend IEP’s if needed.  April’s goal is to give you the tools to feel confident in getting your child an appropriate free and appropriate education.

With her intense experience working with children with Autism, Sensory Processing disorder, prematurity, ADHD, Down Syndrome, unidentified developmental delays, and seizure disorder, April takes an individualized holistic approach when working with families.  She doesn’t agree with a, “one size fits all approach”.  Respecting each family’s culture, diversity, socioeconomic class, and religious beliefs while developing the best plan for your child and your family is of utmost importance to her.
